Why Top Luxury Brands Like Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, And BMW Prefer Michelin Tyres
With over a century of innovation and motorsport expertise, Michelin tyres empower luxury vehicles to perform at their peak while keeping every journey smooth, safe, and refined
When you buy a luxury car, you expect everything to be perfect: every curve, every note of the engine, every detail inside the cabin. But what really connects all that craftsmanship to the road? The tyres: a domain where Michelin has its expertise for years.
For decades, Michelin has been more than a tyre company: it’s been an innovator, a trusted name for the most prestigious car brands. Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-AMG, and the likes, they all choose Michelin for a reason: tyres that don’t just support performance, they define it. Here’s why Michelin is the ultimate partner for luxury vehicles:

Heritage & Trust Built Over Decades

For more than a century, Michelin has pushed the boundaries of tyre innovation, with its expertise honed on the racetrack and perfected for the road. That heritage has earned the brand a place at the top, trusted by luxury carmakers to deliver uncompromising performance.

Take a closer look at the tyres on a Porsche, BMW, or Mercedes, and you’ll often find Michelin’s name. These aren’t generic tyres, they’re developed closely with the carmaker for that exact model. Special codes, like ‘N’ for Porsche, ‘K’ for Ferrari, ‘T’ for Tesla, and ‘MO’ for Mercedes, identify them as approved OE (Original Equipment) fitments, designed to meet the highest standards of precision and control.
Whisper-quiet Comfort On The Road

Luxury cars aren’t just about power, they’re about peace and refinement. Michelin understands this, which is why it has pioneered acoustic technology that makes tyres remarkably quiet without compromising on performance. By incorporating a specially designed polyurethane foam insert inside the tyre, Michelin effectively dampens internal vibrations and resonance, cutting cabin noise by nearly 20 per cent.
It doesn’t just stop there, as even the tread design plays a role. Using an advanced process called ‘Piano Noise Reduction’, Michelin’s team of engineers creates tread blocks of varying widths to eliminate repetitive noise patterns. The result? A ride that feels serene and composed at every speed. As every luxury car has unique acoustic requirements, Michelin partners with automakers to co-develop original equipment tyres tailored for each model, thus ensuring whisper-quiet performance straight from the factory.
Unmatched Grip And Handling Precision

Luxury cars demand tyres that can keep up with their precision engineering: sharp handling, strong grip, and unwavering stability in every situation. Michelin addresses this with its philosophy of “performance made to last,” ensuring tyres deliver consistent excellence from the first kilometre to the very last. Even as tread depth decreases, Michelin tyres are designed to retain critical attributes like traction, braking, and control, guaranteeing safety and confidence throughout their lifespan.
This isn’t by chance, it’s the result of Michelin’s rigorous testing and engineering standards, which push tyres to maintain peak capability right up to the legal wear limit. For the driver, that means fewer replacements, long-term value, and a driving experience that never compromises. Whether it’s sharp urban turns or sweeping highway stretches, Michelin’s tyres provide the grip, responsiveness, and speed that high-performance vehicles demand.
Technology And Innovation

Michelin continues to lead the way in tyre innovation, setting new benchmarks for performance, safety, and sustainability:
- Airless Innovation with UPTIS: Michelin’s UPTIS (Unique Puncture-Proof Tyre System) represents a breakthrough in airless tyre technology. Designed to eliminate the risk of flat tyres and rapid pressure loss, UPTIS removes the need for frequent pressure checks and reduces maintenance downtime. Its robust, airless design makes it especially suitable for future mobility applications such as self-driving cars and shared fleets.
- Sustainable Mobility Vision: UPTIS embodies Michelin’s broader “Vision” concept, which focuses on developing tyres that are airless, connected, 3D-printed, and composed entirely of renewable or bio-sourced materials. This innovation aligns with Michelin’s ongoing commitment to sustainability in mobility.
Luxury Car Standards

Today, luxury cars demand more than performance, that is they demand refinement. Michelin India ensures that its tyres complement the premium character of these vehicles by delivering a seamless balance of comfort, control, and durability. Every tyre is engineered to absorb road imperfections, reduce vibrations, and minimise harsh impacts, creating a smooth and serene cabin experience. This is particularly valuable on India’s diverse roads, where urban congestion, potholes, and highway conditions can challenge ride quality.
Beyond comfort, Michelin focuses on consistency and reliability. The “Performance made to last” philosophy ensures that tyres maintain their grip, handling precision, and braking efficiency throughout their lifespan, allowing luxury vehicle owners to experience sustained performance without compromise. Rigorous quality checks and innovative design processes guarantee that Michelin tyres meet the high expectations of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), aligning with the engineering standards of premium cars.

In addition, Michelin tyres are designed to enhance passenger experience by minimising cabin noise, providing stability under high-speed conditions, and maintaining comfort even when carrying heavy loads. Together, these qualities ensure that every journey in a luxury vehicle is safe, controlled, and supremely comfortable, reinforcing the sophisticated character that discerning drivers expect from their cars.
For luxury carmakers in India, Michelin tyres transcend the role of mere components: they are integral partners in delivering exceptional performance, unwavering comfort, and forward-thinking innovation. With over a century of expertise, Michelin has consistently set benchmarks in tyre technology, ensuring that every journey in a premium vehicle is characterised by precision, safety, and unparalleled refinement.
By choosing Michelin, manufacturers and discerning drivers alike ensure that their vehicles are equipped with tyres that not only meet but exceed the expectations of modern luxury mobility. Michelin tyres embody the ideal synergy between engineering excellence and real-world driving pleasure, making them the natural choice for the world’s most demanding vehicles.

771-HP Bentley Flying Spur with Hybrid V-8 Debuts on September 10
Bentley’s opulent four-door sedan is set for a facelift that will pack the same PHEV punch as the brand’s redesigned grand tourer.By Jack FitzgeraldUpdated: Sep 4, 2024Save Article

Bentley
- The Bentley Flying Spur is getting a facelift that includes a heart transplant.
- The Flying Spur is adding the same plug-in-hybrid V-8 powertrain as the refreshed Continental GT.
- The new unit pairs the combustion engine with an electric motor and 25.9-kWh battery to produce 771 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque.
UPDATE 9/3/2024: Bentley today released a new teaser photo of the upcoming Flying Spur, which the company also announced will be revealed on Tuesday, September 10. This news comes after Bentley confirmed back in July that the new Flying Spur will feature its 771-hp plug-in-hybrid V-8 powertrain.
We’ve known about Bentley’s plans to kill off the W-12 for a while now, but we haven’t known how those plans would affect the Flying Spur—until now. The automaker has announced a facelifted version of the extravagant sedan that includes the new plug-in-hybrid V-8 from the refreshed Continental GT.
The powertrain, which Bentley calls the “Ultra Performance Hybrid,” combines a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 that peaks at 584 horsepower with a 187-hp electric motor squashed between the engine and the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The two combine for a total output of 771 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque.Bentley
The electric motor sources its power from a 25.9-kWh battery, which is claimed to provide up to 51 miles of EV-only driving range based on the rather optimistic European WLTP test cycle. That’s likely closer to 40 miles using the EPA’s methodology. In the Conti, the electric motor can propel the car at speeds up to 87 mph using electricity alone, though that may change for the Flying Spur.
If all of these figures seem familiar to you, that’s because they are. On top of powering the refreshed Continental GT, the mighty PHEV powertrain has been making the rounds throughout the greater Volkswagen Group’s production facilities. The recently announced plug-in-hybrid Lamborghini Urus SE uses a slightly more powerful version of the same setup, while Porsche just announced a new Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid with the same system.Bentley
Not much else is known about the facelifted Flying Spur beyond the powertrain. The manufacturer released a single teaser image of the new car showcasing a slightly revised front end. Bentley promises to reveal more information “in due course,” so we’ll have to sit tight until then.

2026 Toyota Highlander Starts $5000 Higher, FWD Models Dropped
The three-row SUV now comes standard with all-wheel drive across the board and starts off with the XLE trim, meaning last year’s LE base model is no more.By Joey CapparellaPublished: Sep 6, 2025Save Article

- Toyota is adjusting the Highlander’s lineup for 2026, making all-wheel drive standard and dropping the base LE model.
- The base price for the XLE AWD is $46,765, which is nearly $5000 higher than last year’s LE FWD trim.
- Prices for equivalent trim levels are only up by a few hundred dollars compared with last year.
Toyota is offering far fewer configurations of the Highlander for 2026. The mid-size three-row SUV now comes standard with all-wheel drive on all models, and the base LE trim is no more. That means the price of entry starts at $46,765 for the XLE AWD, compared with the 2025 Highlander LE FWD trim’s $41,815 base price. Though the XLE obviously comes with more equipment than the LE did, that’s still a jump of nearly $5000 year over year.
The Nightshade and 25th Anniversary special-edition models also don’t make it to 2026, leaving only the XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum trims with either the standard turbo 2.4-liter inline-four or the optional hybrid powertrain, which already was AWD only.

Prices for the nonhybrid models range up to $54,420 for the fully loaded Platinum AWD trim. Comparative prices for equivalent trim levels are only up by a few hundred dollars. The hybrid model starts at $48,515, just $200 more than last year’s model, and it ranges up to $56,170 for the top Hybrid Platinum AWD.
Sales of the Highlander have declined significantly this year, as the larger Grand Highlander is outselling its smaller sibling by a wide margin. Toyota sold 38,594 units of the Highlander through August, a 47 percent decline compared with last year, and 89,339 units of the Grand Highlander through the same time period.

- Porsche has announced that its electric models are now capable of replenishing their batteries at Tesla Superchargers.
- Owners of 2025 and 2026 Porsche EVs will be able to receive a free CCS-to-NACS adapter.
- At first, drivers will need to use the Tesla app to start charging, but in the next several months, the My Porsche app will also become compatible.
Automakers rarely agree on a single solution. Each company fashions unique gear selectors, climate-control setups, and seat-position adjusters. But when it comes to charging an electric vehicle, the vast majority of the industry has settled on the NACS-style charge port, originally pioneered by Tesla and now spreading across nearly every new EV. Porsche will soon start implementing the NACS port on its latest EVs, and it has now announced that Porsche owners will be able to start accessing Tesla’s widespread Supercharger network starting on September 9.
Porsche describes it as a “soft launch,” meaning that Porsche drivers will still be required to use the Tesla smartphone application to unlock and use Tesla’s chargers. However, the German automaker promises that, in the next several months, it will also add the ability to use the My Porsche app or an even simpler “plug-and-charge” setup at Supercharger stations.James Lipman|Car and Driver
While Porsche had previously said it would start implementing the NACS charging port on its EVs in 2025, the company recently revealed that the upcoming 2026 Cayenne Electric, expected to go on sale at some point next year, will actually be the first Porsche EV to feature a NACS port. For customers driving EVs that feature the older CCS-style port, Porsche is offering a CCS-to-NACS adapter. Porsche says all new 2026 Taycan and Macan EVs will come with a Porsche NACS DC adapter at no extra cost, while owners of 2025 model year EVs will be eligible for a complimentary adapter.

Owners will be notified via the My Porsche app when reservations for a free NACS adapter open. For drivers of Taycans from the 2024 model year and earlier, the NACS adapter will be available for purchase starting today at $185.
Porsche touts this move as opening up access to an additional 23,500 chargers for Porsche EV customers. With the adapter, Porsche EV drivers will also be able to use NACS chargers at stations run by networks such as Ionna and Electrify America, which can be activated by the My Porsche app.
