Upcoming Next-gen Kia Seltos Spotted For The First Time In India, Reveals Some Exterior Design Element
This is the first time the new-gen Seltos is spotted on our shores, reconfirming its boxier design as seen before
The Kia Seltos is set to receive a generational makeover, and the carmaker has been actively testing it in camouflage. Fresh spy shots have surfaced online, showing the Seltos on test once again, this time in Hyderabad, India. The popular SUV from the Korean automaker had previously been spied twice in international markets. We could spot several design details in the latest images, which we talked about in the next section.

What Could Be Spotted?

The latest test mule of the new Seltos reconfirms the newly designed LED headlights, which are vertically stacked in a square housing, black roof rails and sportier-looking black alloy wheels with a chunkier wheel arch cladding. We’ve previously spotted the new Seltos with boxier proportions, a grille with vertical slats, and a rugged black strip running across the bumper. Keen-eyed viewers can also notice dual-tone ORVMs and new split-style taillights, unlike the triangular units seen in the previous mule.
This time, we didn’t get a clear view inside, but previous spy shots have revealed that the new Seltos will adopt a cabin very much inspired by the Kia Syros. A triple-screen setup, seats that resemble those from the Kia EV9 but with upholstery and colour accents similar to the Syros. However, we will have to wait for some official details to confirm this.
Expected Features & Safety

The feature list of the new-generation Kia Seltos hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it is expected to get a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a matching digital driver’s display, and a 5-inch panel for AC controls, similar to the setup in the Kia Syros. Likely carryover features include dual-zone auto AC, powered front seats with ventilation, a panoramic sunroof, and a wireless phone charger.
On the safety front, the upcoming Seltos is expected to retain 6 airbags as standard, a 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and Level-2 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).

The first week of September 2025 was quite buzzing for the Indian automotive industry as it witnessed many launches and, most importantly, the revision in GST slabs

The first week of September 2025 was a rather busy one for the Indian automotive industry as it was a witness to a couple of launches and unveiling events. Another major update that turned out to be in favour of cars was the announcement of GST 2.0 or the new GST reforms. In this story, let’s quickly go through all the important car- and auto industry-related updates that we got to know in the first week of September 2025:
Maruti Victoris SUV Unveiled

Maruti took the covers off its new SUV, the Victoris, as its new compact offering in the same segment as the Grand Vitara. It is a 5-seater SUV and is loaded with plenty of amenities, some of which are a first on a Maruti car too. During the revealing of the Victoris, it was also announced that the new Maruti SUV has also passed the Bharat NCAP crash tests with flying colours.
Citroen Basalt X Launched

The Citroen Basalt SUV-coupe recently got a new X variant in a similar way as was done with the C3 hatchback in August 2025. As part of the new trim, the Basalt comes with revised rates post GST revisions, a new cabin theme, and a fresh set of features too.
VinFast VF6 And VF7 SUVs Launched

After revealing the VF6 and VF7 at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in early 2025, VinFast has finally launched the two electric SUVs in India. Both are being locally produced at the EV maker’s facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. While the VF6 is available in three variants, the VF7 comes in a total of five. Comment end
Hyundai King And King Knight Editions Introduced

While Hyundai had already introduced the Knight editions of the Exter, Venue and Creta, the Korean carmaker has now launched the same for the i20, Creta Electric and Alcazar. Alongside the new Knight edition, Hyundai has also come out with a ‘King’ edition for the Creta to mark its 10-year anniversary in our markets. All special editions get a new paint option as part of the update as well as some feature additions (including even for the Creta N Line) for a premium over the respective variants they are based on.
Updated Honda Elevate Launched
As part of the festive season updates, Honda has upped the game of the Elevate compact SUV by giving it a couple of new cabin theme options (based on the variant chosen), along with a few fresh features too. That said, the updated SUV retains the same powertrain as before.
Kia Syros EV Spied
Following the launch of the Kia Syros in India, the carmaker seems to now be looking at introducing an all-electric version of the SUV on our shores. This can be attested by the recent spy shot of what seems to be the Syros EV that was spotted in India for the first time. It will be the third electric offering from Kia in India after the EV6 and recently launched Carens Clavis EV.
Maharashtra Government’s Big Decision For EVs

For those who are based in Maharashtra and own an electric vehicle, the state government has some good news. It has decided to entirely waive the toll tax for all EVs as a means to step up the adoption of electric cars in the state. That said, the toll waiver is applicable only to select highways and is being planned to be implemented on other state highways as well.
Supreme Court’s Call On E20 Petrol PIL

Ever since the shift to E20 petrol (20 percent ethanol-blended fuel) was advanced from the earlier planned timeline of 2030 to 2025 recently, there have been plenty of debates stirring up online among the entire car fraternity, including existing owners. It had thus led to the filing of a public interest litigation (PIL) that challenged the government’s move to make E20 petrol the standard across India. We have now detailed what the Supreme Court’s rejection of the PIL means for car owners.
GST 2.0 And Its Impact On Cars
It was during the Independence Day 2025 speech when our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, gave the entire nation a piece of good news in the form of the soon-to-be-made revisions to GST slabs. Fast forward to September 2025, and we now know what the changes are, and especially how they impact all segments of cars, including the EVs.

With the new GST slabs coming into effect, Large SUVs and Luxury cars may get cheaper by up to 10 percent

Premium sedans, big muscular SUVs, and top-notch luxury cars have always been aspirational for many, and for that aspiration, they ask for a huge sum of money. A reason for their prices to be so high is the GST and compensation cess placed by the government. However, this is about to change as the new GST slab for these vehicles will kick in from September 22, making such vehicles slightly affordable.
What Changed?
Earlier, the GST applicable on all cars over 4 metres used to be 28 percent, and on top of the GST, a compensation cess was placed which ranged from 15 percent to 22 percent. Now, while the GST has been increased to 40 percent, the compensation cess has been completely removed, which lowers the overall tax applied.

Since all large SUVs and luxury cars are over 4 metres in length, they will all be placed under a single GST slab of 40 percent.

GST | Compensation Cess | Total Tax
Old | 28% | 15% | 43% |
New | 40% | 0 | 40% |
Difference | +12% | 3% |
Strong hybrid passenger vehicles like the Toyota Vellfire, Lexus LM, and BMW XM, which used to attract 43 percent total tax, will now ask for a GST of 40 percent.

GST | Compensation Cess | Total Tax
Old | 28% | 22% | 50% |
New | 40% | 0 | 40% |
Difference | +12% | 10% |
All large SUVs which fulfil the criteria of length, engine size, and ground clearance used to have a total tax of 50 percent. This included cars like the Toyota Fortuner, Mercedes-Benz GLS, Jeep Wrangler, BMW X5, and more.
Under the new tax slab, the total tax on these cars will go down to 40 percent, resulting in a reduction of 10 percent, which is expected to be passed down to the customers.

GST | Compensation Cess | Total Tax
Old | 28% | 20% | 48% |
New | 40% | 0 | 40% |
Difference | +12% | 8% |
Luxury sedans like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A6, BMW 7 Series and even performance cars made in the country will get a GST reduction of 8 percent.
Note: All imported cars whether CBUs (completely built up units) or CKDs (completely knocked down units) will have the same tax as before. 100 percent for CBUs and 50 percent for CKDs.

Other Benefits
The ex-showroom price of the vehicle consists of the factory price, GST, and compensation cess. Since the total tax will be reduced and the ex-showroom price will be lower, you’ll also need to pay a lower RTO tax. This will make your car’s on-road price more affordable.

With the new GST reforms, the cost of parts and components will be placed in the 5 percent slab instead of the previous 12 percent, and this may bring down the production cost of the vehicle, which will further reduce the factory price. However, even if this happens, the manufacturer may or may not choose to pass down these savings to the customer.
In any case, the cost of vehicles will go down due to the new GST norms.
Wait For New Prices
As mentioned earlier, these GST reductions will be applicable from September 22, and we expect manufacturers to announce the revised prices of their vehicles around the same date. If you are planning to buy a new car, we suggest you wait till the new prices are out.

When exactly the prices will be announced and how much the prices will go down is yet to be disclosed, but the new GST slabs will most definitely make large SUVs and luxury cars more affordable.
