You can buy pretty much anything on Amazon these days. Game consoles, food, clothes, a 205-litre barrel of machine lubricant… You get the picture. Now you can add an EA888-powered hot hatch to that list, with Skoda now listing its cars through the online retailer.
Although it’s not the first time a manufacturer has teamed up with Amazon to sell cars, with Hyundai already doing it in the US, Skoda becomes the first to do it in the UK.

Granted, you can’t actually directly buy the car through the marketplace just yet, but you’re able to do pretty much everything else leading up to that point. First, find the car you want, see what’s available through its UK retailer network and check out pricing and finance options.
From there, you can even begin the process of part exchanging your current car through Amazon before setting up a day to go speak with your dealer about it all. Save for signing the dotted lines and test driving, that’s pretty much the whole process.
Unsurprisingly, the main focus is Skoda’s electric cars, but it does offer its whole catalogue on Amazon. Which, yes, includes the Octavia vRS – meaning you can now order a hot hatch after setting up your laundry detergent delivery subscription while sitting on the loo. Technology does have its advantages.

Matthew Bowden, director of Skoda UK, said: “Online browsing and research are part of everyday life, which is why we’re so excited to launch the Skoda showroom at Amazon. It gives prospective customers more opportunities to find their next car and see where it’s available, all from the comfort of their home.”
We would expect many other manufacturers to soon follow in their footsteps. Maybe one day, we’ll be able to order something from Toyota Gazoo Racing for next-day delivery…
